Josh Kurpius - Living Lost Photo Exhibit

Josh Kurpius is a brilliant photographer.  He and his bike, The Locust, have become iconic figures of the biker scene.  Based out of the Chicago area, he rides all over the country from the Brooklyn Invitational to Born Free and everywhere in between.  He has amassed an amazing collection of images . . . and stories.

Rumble Seat Riot - Back Seat Bingo

Lead guitar and vocals: Gene Senn
Bass: Larry Kaster
Drums: Butchi Spector

I grew up with Gene and have known him since kindegarten. I can still remember cruising around town on milk crates in the back of his dad's '35 Ford as a kid. Gene's art also extends to automobiles. He builds hotrods and motorcycles. He built and owns the '29 Model A in the video.

Sofles - Limitless

I saw this on the Church of Choppers blog and was blown away.  Jeff has a great write up about the creator, Selina Miles.  Amazing street art and video. I had to share it.

Powerplant Choppers

For anyone not familiar with Yaniv Evans of Powerplant Choppers, he is the definition of a true craftsman.  He is in a league along with the likes of Indian Larry and Shinya Kimura.  You can't find store bought or bolt on parts on his bikes.  He makes everything himself.  His bikes are absolutely one off custom.  He has developed his own style that is easily identifiable as Powerplant.  Most noticeable are his frames, the way in which he mounts the gas tanks and the ridiculous amount of polished metal (stainless, brass and nickel - not chrome) throughout the bike.  These are two of my favorite bikes.  His personal bike, the Black Mantis, and his Born Free 5 build, the P-16 Bomber.

Run 4 Your Life 2013

I missed the first night of Run 4 Your Life because I still didn't have the XS400 road ready.  I worked out the bugs and got it ready Thursday night, then caught up with the guys Friday in Columbus.

XS400 Project Bike Update

Still have a lot to do, but I finally finished the wheels and tires.  These Firestones are so huge compared to the old ones.  The rear tire is currently rubbing the chain and the inside of the swingarm.  Looks like I will need bigger rear shocks as well.

Road Star

Road Stars are my favorite bikes and their engines are, without a doubt, my favorite powerplants. They started out as carbureted 1600's and have since been upgraded to fuel injected 1700's. These engines have it all; they look great, sounds great, are very dependable, have plenty of power and are perfect for custom applications. They come as a belt drive and can be converted to left or right chain drive, so they have countless wheel options.  They have triangulated swingarms with a hidden monoshock and the backbones can be whittled down to a single tube without performing major surgery.  It's no wonder they are the king of metric customs.

Euro Bike Night - Grandview

I headed out to Grandview for Euro Bike Night.  Although there is a little bit of everything, it's nice to go to a bike night that isn't 90% Harleys (no offense).

XS400 Project Bike Update

The XS400 has been on the backburner for a while. . . a year and a half actually. Just sitting at a friend's place in Iowa. I went back to pick it up in April and have slowly been chipping away at getting it back on the road. I road the crap out of it the season before last, so I have quite a bit of work to do to get it road ready again.

I finally got around to rebuilding and rejetting the carbs.

And I started rebuilding the wheels. A little paint and polish.

I've got some Firestone Deluxe Champion tires to wrap these in when they're all done.
