Road Star

Road Stars are my favorite bikes and their engines are, without a doubt, my favorite powerplants. They started out as carbureted 1600's and have since been upgraded to fuel injected 1700's. These engines have it all; they look great, sounds great, are very dependable, have plenty of power and are perfect for custom applications. They come as a belt drive and can be converted to left or right chain drive, so they have countless wheel options.  They have triangulated swingarms with a hidden monoshock and the backbones can be whittled down to a single tube without performing major surgery.  It's no wonder they are the king of metric customs.

I headed out to Grandview for Euro Bike Night.  Although there is a little bit of everything, it's nice to go to a bike night that isn't 90% Harleys (no offense).

XS400 Project Bike Update

The XS400 has been on the backburner for a while. . . a year and a half actually. Just sitting at a friend's place in Iowa. I went back to pick it up in April and have slowly been chipping away at getting it back on the road. I road the crap out of it the season before last, so I have quite a bit of work to do to get it road ready again.

I finally got around to rebuilding and rejetting the carbs.

And I started rebuilding the wheels. A little paint and polish.

Time Flies

I have always loved the look of old Schwinn bicycles. For years I had hoped to someday build a motorcycle with the same lines, but time, money and opportunity never presented themselves. One day while looking around online, I stumbled across a picture of an XS650 that had clearly been built with that same Schwinn inspiration. The photo had no information about the bike or the builder. I saved the picture as the background on my laptop. Almost a year later I came across a bike building blog that had an XS400 like mine so I started reading through. It was a cool young dude from Portland just doing his thing. As I got closer to the beginning of the blog I saw the Schwinn bike that had been on my laptop for so long. This same guy, Jared Johnson of Holiday Customs, had built that sweet bike I had been drooling over. We went back and forth over some emails. The guy is one cool ass dude. I have been following his work ever since. His first bike turned out even better than what I had imagined building. He has built two more like it since and I never get tired of looking at them. I saw on his blog the other day that it had been three years already since he built that first bike. Man, time flies. Keep up the good work Jared!

After Hours Bikes

Todd Anglani has built a solid reputation for himself over the years building some pretty awesome custom metric bikes, but I think he really found his niche in his line of Rat Rod bikes. He has developed a style all his own that is easily identifiable as "After Hours". Detailed, eclectic and a feast for the eyes.
